Our Story

At Thurgood, we’ve seen how the system really works. Inside many companies, discrimination and retaliation aren’t accidents — they’re enabled by structures that protect those in power. HR policies and legal departments often exist to defend the organization, not the employee.

The system also relies on scarcity. There aren’t enough employment attorneys for the millions of workers who need help, and companies know it. That imbalance keeps people silent.

But most employment claims don’t require a courtroom or a lawyer. Many settle privately, while most others are adjudicated by agencies that allow nonlawyer representation like the EEOC, OSHA, and the Department of Labor (Administrative Conference of the United States, 2024; EEOC; OSHA).

Thurgood exists to make that path visible and accessible. We help employees use the systems already in place as leverage to negotiate settlements and, when necessary, file charges against their employer — without unnecessary barriers or costs.
